Africa-Press – Botswana. Chairperson of the newly established Serowe District Council Mr Keneilwe Monageng and his deputy Mr Bernard Kenosi have highlighted the importance of unity in driving developments and bringing services to the people.
The two were elected on Tuesday and they urged councillors to work hand in hand with the public officers to deliver service to the people.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Kenosi called on councillors to craft a new vision for Serowe and surrounding villages and to give the best to the communities they represented. “It is important to work hard and leave a legacy, he said, adding that the council should also be innovative in revenue collection.
Serowe District Council Secretary Ms Baipelelang Photlokwe said the elections followed the establishment of new district councils.
This development is meant to achieve administrative expediency and enhance citizen participation by transferring decision-making powers and resources to local government,” she said.
She said the decision would also help government’s efforts to bring services closer to the people for quick turn-around times unlike in the past when sub-districts relied on headquarters for decision-making. Meanwhile, Mr Mpho Dithole and Mr Sebati Kabomo were sworn in as council chairperson and deputy of Kanye District Council respectively following a unanimous agreement by councillors to their appointment to the helm of the council. The two were both unopposed.
Mr Dithole, a specially elected councillor, promised to work diligently, without fear or favour to achieve his mandate as the chairperson.
He called upon councillors to work harmoniously for improved service delivery.
For his part deputy chairperson, Mr Kabomo of Mmatshiswane ward assured the district leadership of his dedication towards his responsibilities.
“There is nothing I can do or achieve on my own, I will need teamwork, your support both political and administrative to build the district,” he said.
