Africa-Press – Botswana. A teacher of note, Mr Farmer Bagai was on Friday gifted P4 000 by the Shashe River Class of 1990 in recognition of his stellar performance during last year’s O’ level examinations.

He produced 11 A stars, Five As, 9 Bs and 1 C in Chemistry double science class that set for examinations; a feat that had many salivating with envy.

It is to this end, that Shashe River Senior School Class of 1990, Mr Mmupi Lekula relayed to teachers and pupils during an award ceremony to appreciate a Chemistry teacher at the school that he and his peers felt obligated to reward exceptional performance by Mr Bagai.

“Often times it is pupils who get rewarded for their good performance and as the class of 1990, we have resolved to go against the tide and recognise teachers for their outstanding work.

We intend to do this on an annual basis to recognise teachers who produce most A stars across all subjects as a way to acknowledge and recognise them,” he said.

Motivating pupils, a member of the school’s class of 1990, Ms Mabole Masweu challenged them to work hard if they wanted a decent future.

The advent of technology and the availability of enablers such as the internet should motivate learners to excel in their pursuit of education, she said.

“You are privileged as the 21st century learner because you have both the technology and gadgets at your disposal to learn.

Education is integral if you are to lead successful lives and I am here to urge you to continue to lift the bar even higher and make us proud once again,” said Ms Masweu.

For his part, Mr Bagai relayed that it was the first time in his 21 years of churning out excellent rewards to be recognised the way class of 1990 did.

Hiving his nuggets of wisdom, he said it took hard work to produce excellent results, adding that the current crop of pupils at Shashe River Senior School had what it took to emulate last year’s class.

“We also have capable teachers that can bring the best results.

I would be happy to repeat the same feat come next year but would be happier if any of my colleagues takes the prize,” he said.

Student Representative Council President, Ms Lame Mahloane who spoke on behalf of the learners appreciated the good work put in by teachers and vouched they would burn the midnight oil and produce the best results.

Area MP and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mr Pono Moatlhodi appreciated the excellent results achieved by the school and particularly Mr Bagai’s outstanding work .

“We take pride in the sterling work displayed by Mr Bagai and the learners and today we gathered here to bear witness to such a heroic feat, ” Mr Moatlhodi said.

He showered the school management, the teachers as well as the non-teaching staff for their synergies which he attributed to admirable results.

Shashe River School class of 1990 was formed in 2017 with the primary aim to uplift members and to give back to the school.

Class of 1990 had in the past donated sanitary pads, and printed mugs to the school.
