Africa-Press – Botswana. Letlhakeng festive football tournament, †̃Silver Dec Annual Festivalâ€TM starts December 24 and ends January 2.
This yearâ€TMs edition will include 16 senior and four junior male teams (under 17) with a plan to introduce female football category next year.
Including junior teams is mainly for the benefit of grass roots, which play a pivotal role in growing football according to Letlhakeng sports committee public relations officer, Barongwa Motshonono in an interview.
Registration for senior teams is P1 000 and P500 for the juniors.
Motshonono said the senior category champion would go home with P15 000 while second, third and fourth positions would pocket P8 000, P4 000 and P2 000 respectively.
Those eliminated in the quarterfinals will each get P500 and P100 is for those eliminated in the group stages.
In the junior category, number one will pocket P2 500, two P1 500, three P600 and four P300.
Motshonono said participating teams would share 30 per cent of the gate takings, 50 per cent for the main sponsor and the remaining share would be enjoyed by the sports committee.
Due to extremely hot weather conditions, games are scheduled to start late in the afternoon while some will be played at night. Security is guaranteed.
