South Korean Startup CAST Wins Special Award at GITEX Africa 2025

Africa-Press – Botswana. A South Korean startup has earned a special award at GITEX Africa 2025, the continent’s largest information and communication technology (ICT) exhibition.

The Korea-Africa Foundation announced on April 21 that Korean startups from diverse sectors—including ICT, environment, tourism, agriculture, education, and construction—took part in the exhibition, which was held from April 14 to 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Among them, the startup ‘CAST’ received a special prize from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, during the Supernova Challenge, a global pitch competition for startups. The award includes a cash prize of $10,000 USD (approximately KRW 14 million).

At the event, the Korea-Africa Foundation operated a Korean Pavilion to facilitate connections between Korean startups and African buyers and investors. Participating companies secured tangible outcomes, including proof-of-concept (PoC) agreements, memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and letters of intent (LOIs) for future investments.

GITEX Africa is the African edition of GITEX Global, the world’s largest ICT trade show, held annually in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for more than four decades. Since 2022, the African edition has been hosted in Morocco. This year’s event brought together over 1,400 companies, 650 government agencies, and more than 350 investors, with around 45,000 participants from across the globe.

Kim Young-chae, President of the Korea-Africa Foundation, commented, “GITEX Africa has been expanding steadily over the past three years. The foundation will continue to serve as a bridge to help Korean companies achieve meaningful results in the African market.”
