Africa-Press – Botswana. Assistant Minister of Health says he has been impressed by the status of Mohammed VI Football Complex, a property of Moroccan Royal Football Federation in Rabat.
The facility has accommodation for all the national teams, with around 66 rooms for the seniors while under 23 has three block with around 150 beds and under 17 teams together with goalkeepers, have their own apartments.
It also has an indoor football field, four natural grass, with three artificial grass and an Olympic-sized pool.
“So this facility is saying to us, success is not accidental, it comes from the preparations that we put in and it comes from such facilities,” he said after touring the facility.
Therefore, he said he would share notes with all relevant ministers so that they could also visit the facility and have bilateral exchanges focusing on sport development.
He said he had picked that Botswana had a long way to do.
“So when you look at that facility and look at our own Lekidi Football Centre you will realise that we are world apart, but at the same time we compete with them in the same competitions,” he said.
As such, he said there was a need for Botswana, to ponder on what they could do at a comparative level, but not necessarily big in terms of scope and scale.
The assistant minister said he was also impressed with how they had embraced sports medicine adding that to have a fully-fledged hospital, which was under the former PSG Football Club, was a clear indication that they meant business.
“They do not need to take their athletes anywhere else for medical attention, they have everything and they take care of their players until they recover in the same facility,” he said.
In that regard, Ookeditse said it was of paramount for the country, to look into that, given that athletes’ recovery was very critical.
