Africa-Press – Botswana. Staff retreats are crucial and can be used to reflect, collaborate and plan for the betterment of communities, says Palapye District Council chairperson, Mr Jordan Makhura.

Speaking at a staff retreat meeting in Francistown April 15, Mr Makhura said they recognised the significant roles that they played as stewards in improving the well-being of their community.

He noted that the decisions they made, partnerships forged and initiatives undertaken all contributed to the enhancement of the quality of life of their constituents.

He said the retreat would help them to engage in meaningful discussions, deliberate on important issues and to chart the course that would guide their actions and decisions.

He added that the retreat presented an opportunity to strengthen their bond of solidarity, deepen their understanding of issues they faced in their community and to reaffirm their commitment to serve with integrity, diligence and compassion.

He urged all attendants to approach the retreat with an open mind, a spirit of cooperation and a shared determination to effect positive change.

In his welcome remarks, Francistown Mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo said a shared commitment to collaboration, innovation and progress was important between Palapye and Francistown.

He said the two councils had come together to foster mutual understanding, share insights and strategise for the future.

Mr Radisigo also said they shared a vision for prosperity and growth and that through collaboration the vision could be turned into reality.

He also urged Palapye District councillors to use the opportunity to strengthen partnerships and to drive for positive change for a better Botswana.

For his part, Palapye District Council secretary, Mr Oboikanngo Kuti said the objective of the retreat was to develop and refine strategic plans aligned with community needs and organisational goals.

He also said they aimed to foster stronger relationships and collaboration among councillors and staff members as well as to provide training opportunities to improve governance, strategy implementation and community engagement skills.

He said at the end of the retreat they should be able to set clear and achievable goals prioritising initiatives for community development and to explore collaboration opportunities with external stakeholders.

He also said they should ensure that communication was improved for effective information exchange and understanding.
