STATE PRESIDENT MINISTRY RESPONDS POSITIVELY TO MIND CHANGE

Africa-Press – Botswana. Mindset change requires an alteration of how the civil service has been operating to keep good institutional systems while adopting modern cutting edge ideas to improve service delivery, Ministry for State President officers have said.

After a live viewing of President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s National Mindset Change Launch speech delivered from Zutshwa in the Kgalagadi District, employees of the ministry and its various departments, who had convened at the Pavilion Hall, Fairgrounds, Gaborone, said there was a need to embrace new ideas.

Deputy Permanent Secretary to the President (DPSP), Ms Matshediso Bokole said while public servants were expected to offer good quality service, there have been times when customers have complained of poor service.

She said there was a need to embrace the Mindset Change idea as an opportunity to improve performance in the workplace, to rethink the approach to each person’s input in their occupation, in order to improve delivery.

Ms Bokole said there was a need for the public sector to lay the foundation for Vision 2036 where the country wants to attain a vision of prosperity for all.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for State President, Ms Goitsemang Morekisi said there was a need for all to reflect on what the President said, including the Biblical golden rule that one should treat others as they would want to be treated themselves.

She urged ministry staff to work on improving their performance at the workplace and also in their conduct at their respective homes.

Deputy Permanent Secretary, Government Communications Mr William Sentshebeng, said mindset change should not just be expected of junior officers, but senior government officials should also open their minds to extend social justice to their juniors.

He said if the public sector engages in downsizing, a reflection on the performance assessment of employees to be laid off should be across from senior management to those in the lower scales, and an innovative approach should be implored to ensure fairness.
