Africa-Press – Botswana. North East District Commissioner’s office, Disaster Committee, Social Workers and all village structures are on alert to provide assistance to those affected by the strong winds that raked the villages of Tsamaya, Mabudzane and Siviya on Thursday night leaving a trail of damage.
In an interview after visiting the affected villages on December 15, North East District Commissioner Mr Gobe Macha said his team would be working over the weekend to assess the affected and provide necessities such as accommodation.
Tsamaya Primary Schools, retail stores, homesteads and other structures were affected as the winds blew away their roofs.
Mr Macha stated that his office was awaiting report of the affected homesteads, businesses and other structures to be forwarded to headquarters for assistance.
One of the affected resident of Tsamaya 64-year-old Mr Petrus Moesi said although roofs were blown away, they were left with one room in which he and other three people managed to squeeze themselves.
“I may need food as the combo I bought recently was soaked in the water,” he said adding that all bedding and clothing were also affected by the rain.
