Africa-Press – Botswana. FNB Premiership newbie, Black Lions started their journey in a match against Sua Flamingoes and suffered a 2-0 defeat at Royal Aria in Tlokweng on August 16.
Bafana Ba Letswai as Sua Flamingoes is affectionately known made their intentions clear, getting an early goal through Botshelo Mafoko in the ninth minute.
Black Lions squandered a chance for an equaliser when midfielder Collen Mateu missed golden opportunity midway through the first half.
The two teams went for a half time break with Flamingoes holding a narrow lead. However, their dominance continued in the second half and Lion’s goalkeeper Maikano Tladinyana came to his team rescue, saving a well taken free-kick from Segolame Boy in the 60th minute.
Eventually victory for Sua Flamingoes was sealed when Segolame Boy scored in the 74th minute, following his high profile move from Township Rollers.
The victory marked a positive start for coach Nikola Kavazovic’s men, who are looking to do better than their third place finish last season.
Black Lions assistant coach, Aasif Bhamjee said they were on a new project and it was their first competitive game.
“We take some positives from it, but there is a lot to work on, the season is still long, we will work hard at training and we move forward,” he said.
Furthermore, Bhamjee said but what was important for them was to trust the process.
In other FNB Premiership encounters played on Saturday, Nico United started the league on a positive note, defeating Extension Gunners 2-1 at Sam Sono Stadium in Selebi Phikwe. Moabi Phuthego and Pako Gaofose scored for Majombolo, while Gunners goal was scored by Senatla Molefhe.
Galaxy made their intentions clear winning 3-0 against Morupule Wanders at homeground, in Jwaneng.
At the National Stadium, Lehlohonolo Fothoane and Omphile Vissage secured three valuable points for Township Rollers in a 2-0 win against Matebele FC.
League defenders Gaborone United presented Calendars Stars with a rowdy welcome to the elite league defeating them with a solitary goal courtesy of Thatayaone Kgamanyane at Obed Itani Stadium in Francistown.
On Friday evening, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and BDF XI settled for a goalless at the National Stadium in Gaborone.
