Africa-Press – Botswana. A team of seven swimmers has left for Cairo, Egypt on Monday to compete at the 16th Africa Aquatics Junior Swimming and Open Water Swimming Championships 2025.

The competitions starts tomorrow and ends on Saturday, and Botswana will be amongst 24 African countries competing at the Cairo Stadium Swimming Pool Complex. The team, guided by coach Onkemetse Mpusetsang, is made up of three females, Melodi Saleshando, Jieun Chang, and Yun-Suh Chang, as well as four males being Rayhan Khonat, Gaamangwe Junior Keitsile, Khalil Sethi, and Larona Matenge.

Botswana Swimming Sports Association’s (BSSA) spokesperson Gwendolyn Harry is confident that they have sent a formidable team to Egypt. She said in an interview that the championships were open to junior swimmers under the age of 18 and designed to showcase the talent of young swimmers from various African nations. The swimmers, she said had been training under the guidance of their respective coaches and BSSA was proud of their dedication and hard work.

“The BSSA is confident that our swimmers will aim to achieve and improve on their personal bests, and enjoy the competition,” she said.
