Africa-Press – Botswana. TAFIC FC celebrated the team’s remarkable achievement after securing second place in the Premier League. The feat received a standing ovation from attendees in recognition of the players’ dedication and performance during the past season.
Speaking at the appreciation dinner on Saturday, chairperson of TAFIC FC, Tumelo Toteng emphasised the club’s stature as a “giant” of Botswana’s Northern football.
He acknowledged the team’s long-standing history and significant contributions to the region’s sporting landscape, citing that TAFIC was an inspiration for aspiring athletes in Francistown and beyond. He encouraged the team and supporters to build on the success, reinforcing the idea that such achievement set a precedent for future triumphs.
TAFIC president, Tshedukani Elijah of Petro Hyper Company, reinforced commitment to support football, despite his business not being directly involved in sports issues.
He said Petro Hyper associated with growth and improvement, thus the company’s willingness to invest in TAFIC FC that was committed to competitive excellence.
Elijah expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment, noting that achieving second place in the league exceeded their initial expectations. He acknowledged the financial challenges within football, remarking that the sport often demanded considerable investment with limited returns.
Nonetheless, he affirmed the valuable nature of engaging competitively, stating that success in the league could elevate the club’s prestige.
Despite setbacks, including a loss to Gaborone United, Elijah remained optimistic about TAFIC’s trajectory. He stressed that the club’s history does not limit its future, advocating for a mindset geared towards victory in the coming season.
Petro Hyper’s investment in the club he said demonstrated confidence in TAFIC’s serious approach to football, and he believes that the team would overcome past limitations and turn such challenges into opportunities for success.

The gala dinner also took time to celebrate the league winners, Gaborone United, recognising their achievements within the League. TAFIC FC made history last season, with seven players selected for the national Zebras team, becoming key figures in the club’s success and the premier awards.
Elijah underscored the importance of community advice, affirming that management remainsed open to suggestions while also asserting the club’s independent vision for growth.
He praised Francistown’s sporting facilities, highlighting their potential to transform the city into a vibrant sporting hub. He expressed gratitude to players for their resilience amid limited resources, acknowledging their relentless pursuit of excellence.
