Africa-Press – Botswana. TAFIC sailed through to the last 16 round of the Orange FA Cup following an emphatic 3-0 win over Notwane on Saturday. It recovered from a poor first half to boot Notwane out of the competition with three goals in the second half of the match.

It was a rather sluggish start to the match by both teams but it was the home side which showed some bit of urgency in attack. It took 13 minutes for the first attempt at goal to arrive. But Notwane’s Botshelo Mafoko could only direct his header wide off the post. Seven minutes later, TAFIC had their first sight at goal as Michael Murirwa’s free kick attempt was easily thwarted by the goalkeeper. The Toronto Boys then took charge of the game but were let down by some poor decision making in the final third.

With just four minutes to the break Joseph Pyele beat his man inside the box but shot in to the cross bar. A minute later, Tshepo Ramhenngwa set up Pyele but but the latter’s shot was too weak to trouble the goalkeeper as the two teams went into recess level at 0-0.

Ten minutes into the second half, Pyele was denied by advancing goalkeeper, Adebnico Morapedi. Chances came flooding from Notwane and two minutes later, Ramhenngwa missed the target by a whisker.

TAFIC against the run of play, took the lead on the hour mark. Mothusi Fanyana found himself with acres of space at edge of the opposition defense and slotted past the goalkeeper to far post to give his side the lead. The visitors made it 2-0 on the 71st minute as Thabo Segoda met Godknows Mutina’s cross with a volley, just five minutes after both players were substituted in.

With four minutes to time, Mutina put the final nail on the coffin as he capitalised from a poor clearance by Emmanuel Nlu to bury one in to the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

“We prepared for Notwane, throughout the week we have been working on how Notwane plays. We wanted to contain them in the first half and in the second half we realised that they have not changed their approach so we added some bit of power upfront,” Tafic’s head coach, Lovemore Mokgweetsi said. His counterpart, Thaloba Nthaga said his side failed to take their chances and it lead to their own demise.
