Africa-Press – Botswana. The autoclave machine at Takatokwane Clinic has not functioned since clinics migrated to the Ministry of Health.
Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti said in Parliament when answering a question from Takatokwane MP, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe.
Dr Dikoloti said the ministry was unable to state the price of the machine since it came with the facility when clinics migrated from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Health.
He said autoclave machines were used to sterilise equipment utilised for procedures to prevent cross-contamination between clients.
He explained that the ministry’s plan was to procure a new autoclave machine since the cost of buying parts was prohibitive.
Mr Leuwe had asked if the minister was aware that the autoclave machine at Takatokwane Clinic had been non-functional since installation.
He asked the minister to also state how much had been paid for the machine, why the machine was procured as well as whether there were plans to fix or replace it.
