Africa-Press – Botswana. In a bid to enhance the quality of education, the Tawana Land board generously donated 38 chairs to Tshwaragano Junior Secondary School, which was reported to be facing a severe shortage of chairs.
The donation was a response to social media reports that some students were forced to bring their own chairs from home due to the lack of adequate seating.
During the handover ceremony on Friday, Mr Moalosi Sebati, the deputy chairperson of the Land board, expressed concern over the challenges faced by the school and mobilized staff members to contribute funds towards addressing the issue. He mentioned that while the number of donated chairs may not be sufficient, the gesture aimed to significantly improve the teaching and learning environment at the school.
Mr Sebati stressed the importance of providing a comfortable and conducive learning environment for children, emphasizing that proper resources are essential for effective education. The school head, Ms Lynette Setumo, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting the significant impact it would have on both the school and its learners, especially considering the overcrowding caused by an unexpected increase in student numbers.
Acknowledging the potential negative impact of the chair shortage on the teaching and learning process, Ms Setumo welcomed the donation and hoped for continued support from the organization to meet the school’s needs in the future.
Aside from the donation, the Tawana Land board also organised a wellness day to promote the health and well-being of its staff. Activities such as races, games, and aerobics were conducted as part of the event. Ms Reamogetswe Yakenge, the board chairperson, emphasised the importance of employee wellness in achieving optimal performance for national development, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to prioritising the well-being of its employees.
Ms Yakenge noted that the wellness day symbolized the organisation’s dedication to enhancing productivity through a healthy workforce and encouraged employees to prioritize their health to improve their overall quality of life. She also highlighted the need for lifestyle improvements to prevent non-communicable diseases among staff members.
