Africa-Press – Botswana. Teamwork is essential for strengthening African entrepreneurship, as emerging partnerships and mentorship programmes foster smarter, more resilient businesses across the continent, says Mr Moagi Onkabetse, founder of Merce Anders Equity Group.
Speaking at the Techstars Startup Community Catalyst Africa in Gaborone on Wednesday, Mr Onkabetse, who had partnered with Techstars for the Techstars Startup Weekend Africa Botswana, stated that such platforms were a beacon of hope for the future of Africa.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in New York City, Techstars is a global startup accelerator and venture capital firm that provides capital, mentorship and support for early-stage entrepreneurs.
Mr Onkabetse, who had been involved with Techstars during his entrepreneurship journey, said innovation should be the norm and not the exception in the quest to building a bright and prosperous future for generations to come.
He stressed that Africa was rich in initiatives that, through collaboration, could drive success and inspire a prosperous future for future generations.
Techstars Programme Lead, Ms Emilie Vallauri, explained that the programme supported startup communities in various ways, including the Techstars Community Development Lab, which aims to foster a thriving startup ecosystem; Startup Week, an educational event where participants can pitch and develop startup ideas; Founder Catalyst, an accelerator programme providing early entrepreneurs with invaluable education and mentorship; and Techstars Accelerators, which help entrepreneurs find product-market fit, gain traction, and access capital and mentorship.
Ms Vallauri announced that the Community Catalyst in Botswana would run a series of programmes over the next two years adding that Techstars had partnered with local stakeholders.
The Techstars Startup Weekend Africa Botswana takes place today and ends Sunday in Gaborone, catering for both established startups looking to expand their partner networks and those eager to experience startup life.
The programme will also welcome participants from neighbouring countries, including Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
