Africa-Press – Botswana. Tlhalogang Junior Secondary School in Borolong is oversubscribed.
According to the Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Dr Nono Kgafela-Mokoka the school’s enrolment was currently 1 348 against the capacity of 880 learners.
The school’s feeder schools are Borolong, Chadibe North, Makobo and Shashemooke Primary schools. The minister however, said Chamabona Junior Secondary School in Mathangwane was being expanded in an endeavour to relief oversubscription of Tlhalogang school.
She further acknowledged that the ministry was aware of the over double capacity of boarding students at Tlhalogang school, hence the expansion of Chamabona school to relief congestion at Tlhalogang school hostels.
Dr Kgafela-Mokoka said the expansion included construction of hostels with a capacity of 96 boys and 96 girls. Moreover, she said one of the feeder schools of Tlhalogang junior secondary school would be shifted to Chamabona to decongest the hostels.
Dr Kgafela-Mokoka was responding a question from Member of Parliament for Shashe West, Mr Jeremiah Frenzel; who asked the minister if she was aware of the overpopulation of students at Tlhalogang junior secondary school.
He also asked if the minister was aware of the over double capacity of boarding students at the school.
