Africa-Press – Botswana. After being booted out of the same competition last season by the same opponent, VTM FC got sweet revenge of Matebele FC when they knocked them out of the Season 5 Orange FA Cup.
VTM FC displayed one of their best performances for a long time to see off fellow premier league rookies 3-0 at the VTM Arena on Saturday.
Despite Matebele FC being the better side judging by their premier league log standings so far, VTM defied that by grabbing what many saw as a smooth win, although VTM FC coach Reuben Njavera indicated that the game was not as easy as it may have looked.
“We approached this game with caution looking at what happened in the last season and the game was made even tougher by the fact that it was my first game with the boys” he said.
Njavera also said the win was good for the morale of the team, which is fighting relegation week in and week out.
He said they took advantage of the fact that Matebele FC were not good with ball play, thereby making it easy for his team to plan attacks while holding possession.
For his part, Matebele FC coach, Elias Chinyemba said his team just did not come to the game on the day. “We were second to VTM on everything. We were very slow. We did not attack the box, we did not defend well and we did not combine well. In short, nothing went well for us today,” he said.
He said part of the problem might had been too much heat as well as a couple of injuries that they had in their camp.
Chinyemba said it was a pity that cup games did not had second chances for one to redeem themselves. He said their focus would now turn to the league, where the objective was to keep their premier league status.
In other Southern Block, Season 5 Orange FA Cup last 48 games results, Notwane beat Union Flamengo Santos 2-0 at the SSG ground. Mochudi Centre Chiefs piped Magosi FC by a solitary goal while Blue Starts lost 0-3 to Taung Young Strikers in Ghanzi.
