The duo; Apostle Petros Nonkonyana from Mogoditshane and Ms Kebadile Wasenda from Sepopa, were awarded for their humanitarian efforts in different parts of the country.
Speaking in an interview during the United Nations World Youth Day recently, Apostle Nonkonyana appreciated the award, saying he was involved in charity work, ensuring that the most vulnerable, particularly infants, were taken care of.
“I adopted an orphanage with about 365 children at Gamodubu from 2013 until 2020 and have been providing groceries, toiletries, and during winter we gave them blankets. We also prepared Christmas lunch and bought clothes for them every year” said Apostle Nonkonyana.
Through his charity work, he said, he extended support to a few schools in Botswana, becoming their patron.
“We renovated dilapidated classrooms at Mogoditshane primary school and have also adopted a primary school in Ditshukudu where we provided school uniform to pupils who completed and passed their PSLE as they prepared go to junior secondary school,” he said.
In 2021, he said, they provided toiletries and groceries to children with albinism for a year in Kang.
The charity organisation has helped widows and initiated a national spelling competition for primary schools from 2018-2020.
Meanwhile Ms Wasenda said through an event she organised called Okavango Music Festival, she had been making a positive impact for the past seven years, under the motto; Transforming lives; Unleashing talent. She said the charitable event was devoted to giving artists a platform to showcase their talent.
She has also given back to Okavango community through Department of Social and Community Development. “In 2022 I donated to six children and elders in Mohembo West on Christmas Day and I have also donated a house at Shakawe for the less privileged,” she said.
Ms Wasenda said she had donated about 100 Christmas gift hampers to another charity organisation, Adore Little Children organisation in Ngarange.
Honouring the duo, Country Director and Ambassador of the International Association of World Peace, Prophetees Kamo Podiephatswa-Frankie said being appointed as an Eminent Peace Ambassador was a call to serve humanity rather than a reward for status.
“This recognition was not only a reward but also an acknowledgement of the individuals’ valuable contributions to creating a peaceful society,’ she said.
