Africa-Press – Botswana. University of Botswana (UB) Acting Vice Chancellor, Mr Dawid Katzke, has reaffirmed UB’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, describing the institution as a vibrant community of different backgrounds, cultures and traditions.
Speaking at the Botswana Travelling Korea – Cultural Exchange event held at the UB Campus Indoor Sports Centre recently, Mr Katzke said the cultural exchange aligned with the University’s vision of becoming a leading centre of academic excellence in Africa and the world. He emphasised that cultural understanding, creativity and respect for diversity played a crucial role in shaping quality education.
Mr Katzke further highlighted that the event served as a platform for nurturing students’ talents and artistic expression, enabling them to excel not only academically but also holistically.
He noted that such engagements provided unique opportunities for students and the wider community to build meaningful interpersonal connections through dance, music, exhibitions, cuisine and shared experiences. That, he added, directly contributed to UB’s mission of producing well-rounded graduates who were academically accomplished, globally minded and culturally aware.or his part, Director of Culture, Sports and Recreation, Dr Comfort Mokgothu, underscored the educational value of cultural diversity. He observed that diverse cultures brought a wealth of experiences, knowledge and values into the classroom, enriching students’ perspectives on history, global issues and social dynamics.
Dr Mokgothu added that such cultural exchanges cultivated critical thinking, fostered empathy and encouraged respect for different viewpoints. In doing so, they not only enhance academic achievement but also prepare students to thrive as effective global citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.
