Africa-Press – Botswana. UCCSA James Good Memorial church members have been advised to embrace the spirit of giving, as a way of appreciating God’s grace in their lives.

Speaking during the thanksgiving service in Kanye on Sunday, Reverend Mosweu Simane urged members to always do good under all circumstances, as God’s grace would follow them and their lives would positively change.

“Give thanks to God because his favour knows no limits and would always follow you,” he said.

He described God’s grace as unconditional love, which does not care about circumstances around one’s life, hence the need to give thanks to him.

Rev Mosweu said it was important for churches to assist the public in different ways such as engaging retired teachers to tutor children.

For his part, the vice chairperson of Soldiers of Christ, UCCSA James Good Memorial church, Mr Bias Silabo said thanksgiving was a way of acknowledging God’s blessings.

“There are lot of good things in our lives due to God’s blessings such as his protection hence the need to thank him for that,” he said.

He noted that church members gave thanks to God in various ways, such as giving money, food and even livestock, noting that what had been collected would be used to assist the less privileged and carry out the work of God.

Mr Silabo said it was important for people to once in a while reflect on their lives and appreciate what God had done for them, adding that even those who do not attend church should give thanks to God.

“Helping less privileged members of the community is also a way of giving back to God. Thanksgiving should not only be conducted at churches, even those who do not attend church could still give thanks in various ways,” he added.

He reminded members that whatever they had in life was due to God’s grace, hence the need to thank him.

“Go sego letsogo le le abang, gona le le le amogelang,” he said, encouraging members to help the less privileged members of society.

Ms Nelly Makwepa, a church member, explained that thanksgiving meant a lot to her and her family, adding that they believed that all the good things they had was due to God’s grace, hence it was right to thank him for such.

“God’s blessings are countless such as children being successful in life and having good health as well as protection and we have to be grateful for that,” she added.

She highlighted that she joined the church in 1985 and had been partaking in thanksgiving events ever since.

Ms Makwepa advised all to appreciate God’s love and blessings in their lives, noting that thanksgiving proceeds made a huge difference to those that would be assisted and elevated the church to greater heights as some of the proceeds would be used to grow the church.

The event was held under the theme; Give Thanks in all Circumstances and the thanksgiving proceeds totalled over P20 000.
