UDC Wins Moreomaoto By-Election

Africa-Press – Botswana. Umbrella for Democratic Change, through Mr Mpaphi Dikaelo, has won the Moreomaoto by-election with 189 votes.

Mr Dikaelo was followed by Mr Odirile Basiame of the Botswana Congress Party with 143 votes, while Ms Gaoleothoo Mabego of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) came third with votes 108 votes. Mr Poloko Gaolebalwe, who stood as an independent candidate, came fourth with 16 votes while Sonda Seepetswe came last with 14 votes. A total of 545 had registered for election for the ward and while 471 voted, 470 were valid and one was rejected.

The by-election follows the death of Councillor Diagelo Madima of the Botswana Democratic Party who died on September 22, 2025.

In the last General Elections, the BDP secured victory in Moreomaoto ward with 217 votes, followed by the UDC with 185 and the BCP with 50 votes.
