Africa-Press – Botswana. The European Union (EU) and the United States signed an agreement on Friday to increase collaboration to promote sustainable energy in sub-Saharan Africa, seeking to promote renewable energy in the region.
According to Lusa, Brussels and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding in which they undertake to jointly promote green energy projects, which in the European case are part of the “Global Gateway” infrastructure program.
The Finnish commissioner stressed that, “together”, the European Union and the United States will bring electricity to more schools and health centers and in order to “more efficiently combat the inequalities resulting from energy poverty in the region”, where 600 million people do not have access to electricity. Constant power outages are a bottleneck for growth in several African countries.
