Africa-Press – Botswana. Residents of Molapowabojang have been urged to use ‘Temo Letlotlo’ when it commences in the next financial year as it has the potential to change their lives and improve national food security.
Member of Parliament for Mmathethe /Molapowabojang, Dr Edwin Dikoloti called on Batswana to explore the agricultural value chains, such as producing their own seeds instead of importing them.
Dr Dikoloti informed his constituents that President Mokgweetsi Masisi was working tirelessly to ensure that local livestock breeds were improved, and had secured semen from different countries to achieve that.
He therefore urged Batswana to take their cattle for artificial insemination, noting that government was not making any profit from that as the aim was to improve local breeds.
Responding to the residents concern about the high rate of stock theft, he said if the criminals had no market, crime would be reduced. He therefore urged Batswana to desist from buying stolen property.
The MP also requested the villagers to work with the police to combat crime, adding that no one should turn a blind eye on suspicious criminal activities.
“These criminals stay amongst us, they are our children, brothers and sisters, and for us to successfully win this fight we have to start at our homes,” he added.
Regarding shortage of medicine, he said the government was working day and night to attract medicine manufacturers to Botswana.
“Medicine prices had gone up hence the need to have companies producing medicines setting up in Botswana, we have already sent some Batswana abroad to learn about medicine manufacturing,” he said.
He told residents that shortage of medicine would soon be history as they had already received some consignments and more was still to be delivered.
Dr Dikoloti further encouraged Batswana to keep a healthy lifestyle throiugh exercise their so as to fight non-communicable diseases which were on the rise.For his part, Kgosi Kedirile Letshabo of Molapowabojang complained of the escalating crime rate in the area, especially livestock theft.
Kgosi Letshabo highlighted that their share of constituency fund was not enough as Molapowabojang was vast, however Dr Dikoloti informed him that the constituency was also very big with many villages.
“The P10 million have to be shared by all these villages,” he said.
Pertaining to education, he said all primary schools in the area performed exceptionally well, further thanking all stakeholders for the great results.
Some residents thanked the government for different developments in the area, however they highlighted that some public employees did not assist them accordingly.
Molapowabojang residents also praised government in its effort to attain national food security.
They highlighted that through visionary leadership, Batswana were able to produce most of the horticultural products and they attributed that to the import ban on some products.
