Africa-Press – Botswana. Odirile ‘Vee Mampeezy’ Sento and Minister for State President Mr Kabo Morwaeng on Thursday handed over a Nissan Elgrand vehicle to Terrence Motlhalefi popularly known as Oska Bora Techere on Facebook.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony at Molepolole Main Kgotla, Vee said transport was the biggest challenge and hindrance for artists to do their work.
He said he therefore met with Minister Morwaeng and shared his idea and the last Man Standing show was born and announced as a charitable event during which an upcoming artist would be gifted with a vehicle.
Vee said after the announcement Facebook was flooded with upcoming artists showcasing their talent and people voted the one they liked most through a voting line created with the help of Yarona FM.
He said he believed that the vehicle would be of great value to Oska Bora Techere and would help him move from one place to the other without any hurdles.
He reminisced on his days when he started his music journey and sought advice from Franco Lesokwane who told him the importance of buying oneself a vehicle for easier travel.
Vee added that he therefore thought of those who had just started their music careers but did not have the means hence the gift to the upcoming artist.
He advised Oska Bora Techere to take care of the vehicle and use it positively for the benefit of his profession.
He further said he would assist in the maintenance of the vehicle for the next two months during which he would cover the cost of service for the vehicle.
Vee advised the young man to grow his art and become a role model for others.
Minister Morwaeng who is also Molepolole South MP commended Vee for the noble gesture, saying the gift of the vehicle came at an opportune time when artists were mobile and needed their transport to get to different places.
Mr Morwaeng further said government remained committed to the development of artists citing the collaboration between the Department of Broadcasting services and Thato DJ Fresh Sikwane’s national tour which gave artists an opportunity to showcase their talent.
He said support was integral in the success of artists and encouraged everyone to make sure they support local artists so that they too could earn a better life.
Minister Morwaeng pointed to the commitment of government in helping artists realise their dreams through the launch of three television channels with one set aside solely for entertainment.
He said this gave artists an opportunity to produce and record their work which would be used and they would be paid royalties for the work played more so a decision had been taken to have local content making up 80 per cent of content played on national tv and radio.
Mr Morwaeng stressed the importance of registering with COSBOTS so that they can enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Receiving the vehicle Motlhalefi said he was thankful for the vehicle as he would now be able to traverse the land without any transport challenges.
In his welcome remarks Kgosi Lawrence Mhaladi said he was happy for the artist who has put Mokwena on the map.
Kgosi Mhaladi commended government for the initiative to encourage and promote artists.
He asked morafe and Batswana at large to support the artists and extended his gratitude to Vee for supporting Oska Bora Techere.
