Africa-Press – Botswana. Former Radio Botswana veteran broadcaster, Mr Geoffrey Motshidisi alias ‘Rraagwe Malaakatse’ has died.
According to to a family spokesperson, Kgosi Sue Mosinyi of Bokaa, Mr Motshidisi passed on, April 3 at Bokaa clinic after complaining of shortness of breath.
The 74-year-old Motshidisi became popular through a couple of Radio Botswana programmes including ‘O sethakga jang rakotoleakgwetlha, Tatediso Ya Dikgang, Parliament news and the latest being ‘Mo Kitcheneng’ which gained popularity with listeners enjoying his style of presenting the programmes.
Former colleague, Mr Mogatusi Kwapa said in an interview that Mr Motshidisi was a great radio personality who made radio interesting.
He said he became an avid Radio Botswana listener because of Mr Motshidi’s style of presenting.
“Geoffrey was very talented, I greatly admired him and a lot of people thought we were peers because we related very well. He was a true gentleman, ever smiling and full of laughter,” said Mr Kwapa
When he joined radio in 1984, Mr Motshidisi had already laid a foundation on how to make radio exciting through his effortless presentations and amusing jokes.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
