The Vice President and Minister of Finance, Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, received a courtesy call from UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Wenyan Yang, who introduced the new UNDP Resident Representative in Botswana, Ms. Lovita Ramguttee. The meeting underscored Botswana’s commitment to advancing its reform agenda while deepening cooperation with international partners.
Gaolathe outlined key national reform priorities that the government is pursuing. These include restoring fiscal discipline, diversifying the economy, revitalising state-owned enterprises, and modernising the education system. He also stressed the importance of the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), which focuses on attracting investments in high-potential sectors such as agriculture, digitalisation, and financial services. The programme is designed to accelerate inclusive growth and create sustainable jobs.
Ms. Yang commended Botswana’s leadership for its commitment to multilateralism and reform-driven development. She noted that the country’s progress has positioned it as a model for regional cooperation and sustainable policy implementation.
Ms. Ramguttee, in her first engagement as the UNDP Resident Representative, pledged strong support for Botswana’s national priorities. She highlighted the importance of fiscal discipline, integrated financing frameworks, and homegrown solutions that align with the country’s long-term development goals. Her remarks reflected UNDP’s commitment to working alongside Botswana in addressing economic challenges and unlocking new opportunities for growth.
