Africa-Press – Botswana. After careful consideration of recent events in our politics, I have decided to make the hard and difficult decision to part ways with my comrades as the party is now being used in personal reconciliation negotiations and essentially being sold to the highest bidder for personal interest.” Meanwhile, another cadre Foster Seretse has also resigned from the party with immediate effect.

The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) vice president, Caroline Lesang has resigned from the party with immediate effect. A letter from her dated February 1, 2023, reads: “Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from the BPF.

I write formally to resign from my position as the party‘s vice president and subsequently also resign from the BPF National Executive Committee (NEC) and its auxiliary committees with immediate effect.

Seretse joined the BPF after defecting from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in 2019 as he was sympathetic to his cousin former president Ian Khama. Seretse served as a member of the BPF disciplinary committee. Reached for a comment on his decision to leave, Seretse told Online: “I want to focus on my life and leave active politics.

As things stand in the BPF, there is no progress and some want to continue to use Khama’s name for their own gain. I am against the use of Khama’s name by people who are aiming for certain positions. Seretse also said it is wrong that some members of the BPF want to push former president Khama to lead their campaigns for the 2024 General Elections.

The former president’s cousin further warned those who use Khama’s name for political campaigns and for their personal gain. He stated that it should be noted that Botswana’s Constitution does not allow Khama to contest for state presidency. Over the weekend, Masisi said he wishes that one day, he and Khama could reconcile and talk to each other again.

Currently, Khama is in self-exile in South Africa and a High Court in Botswana has issued a warrant of arrest against him for failing to appear before the court. His charges include unlawful possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property and procuring the registration of a firearm by false pretence among others. “It is time for both Khama and President Masisi to reconcile for the nation’s sake,” Seretse added
