Africa-Press – Botswana. Mercedes has just four races to say “goodbye” to the W13 car, which was unable to help the Germans win the Constructors’ Champion title in the 2022 season.

The drop was not expected as many experts believed Lewis Hamilton would return in 2022 stronger than ever after last year’s Max Verstappen title.

Against all expectations, the English driver had the worst season of his career, running the risk of finishing in sixth position, alongside Mercedes who had a season to forget after 2012, when he finished fifth.

But the team’s director Toto Wolff considers third place “still respectable” and, moreover, calls it “naivety” to believe that the team would fight every year for the Constructors’ title in Formula 1.

“We are in third place. It is not misery; it is still respectable because we could have been further behind. To think that we would win all the championships would be a great naivety”, said the director to Channel 4.

Still, Mercedes believes in a victory this season, but recognizes that it will not be easy. Toto Wolff reveals that “Realistically, and we’ve talked about this in recent years, all cycles end one day. There is no team in Formula 1 that wins every world championship.”
