Africa-Press – Botswana. Public servants in Tonota took their time out on Friday to participate in a wellness day.

The event started with a walk from the bus rank to Tonota Primary School, where other activities were held.

In his address, Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital superintendent, Dr Ivan Kgetse, said there was connection between wellness days and mindset change in the workplace.

Wellness day, he said, enabled employees to shift from a place of stress and burnout to one of balance and self-care.

Dr Kgetse, therefore, encouraged employees to make healthy lifestyle choices as well as prioritise their mental and physical health.

This would then lead to a more positive and productive work environment, he added.

However, Dr Kgetse said employees were not doing enough to promote wellness in the workplaces.

He called upon employees to dream big and device plans of what they wanted to achieve.

He explained that employees should have passion for their work and pursue more learning.

In his remarks, Tonota Primary School head, Mr Talks Maleka, said the wellness day was the ideal way to promote good health among employees.

This day, he said, could be improved to include activities such as fitness classes, workshops on nutrition, stress management and even team-building exercises.

Giving objectives of the event, chief education officer for Tonota region, Ms Wananani Gunda said they intended to increase awareness on the importance of health.

Ms Gunda said this was meant to inspire employees and provide an opportunity for them to interact with health professionals for tips on living healthy lifestyles.

The other objective was to raise awareness on various topics such as mental health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, amongst others.
