Africa-Press – Botswana. The first two days of the World Food Forum (WFF), which began on Monday at FAO’s headquarters in Rome, were reserved for the debate on “Healthy Diets” and “Healthy Planet”.

The World Food Forum 2022, held in person and virtually, comprised the World Youth Forum, the FAO Science and Innovation Forum and the FAO Hand in Hand Investment Forum.

The forum’s main objective is to raise awareness among young people and trigger actions on the link between climate change, access to safe and nutritious food and healthy diets.

Key events at the forum include the Youth Assembly, innovation awards, educational activities (YUNGA Laboratories, Teacher Laboratories and School Assembly), capacity building workshops, exhibitions, side events and cultural activities.

The newly created Young Scientists Group made its first official presentation. This is a group of 20 outstanding scientists under the age of 35, together with the Youth Assembly Global Focal Points Group, which provides strategic guidance and supports the process of developing youth positions and policies.

Young participants are drawn from all FAO Member States and WFF’s public and private partners, including Indigenous Youth and representatives of other vulnerable communities.

Twenty countries presented investment opportunities and the Forum featured special sessions focused on regional initiatives in the Sahel Dry Corridor.

The opening ceremony was attended by world leaders, including the presidents of Poland, Sao Tome and Principe, Honduras, Panama and the Republic of Guyana, and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Pope Francis sent a virtual message.
