Africa-Press – Botswana. Water Utilities Cooperation (WUC) is not in receipt of any refund requests, nor aware of any person owed refunds related to prepaid standpipes water tokens in the Selebi Phikwe East area.
Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi said this when answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday. He said WUC had a well-defined refund procedure in place for customers who requested a refund for varied reasons.
He said written requests with proof of purchase of tokens would be assessed on receipt and customer accounts and investigated to establish balances, and refunds processed to reimburse customers.
Mr Ramogapi said no amounts were held by WUC for refund of prepaid standpipes tokens deposits. He therefore, encouraged anyone with a refund claim to contact the corporation following the established procedure.
Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe East, Mr Kgoberego Nkawana asked if the ministry was aware that there were people in Selebi Phikwe who had prepaid water before the scheme was discontinued and that such clients had not been refunded the money they paid before the scheme discontinued.
Mr Nkawana also wanted to know what could be the cause of the problem and action the ministry intended to take to resolve it.
