Africa-Press – Botswana. Yasgrow ventures, a youth organisation that focuses on empowering women and children, more especially the girl child, plans to celebrate women’s day in style, by raising funds to assist those in need.
The event, to be held Saturday, at Mokhasi Camp in Kanye, is expected to be graced by, among others, First Lady Neo Masisi and Mohumagadi Masetsebi Gaseitsewe of Bangwaketse.
Yasgrow public relations officer, Ms Oratile Maruping told BOPA in an interview that they realised that many children from less privileged families, especially in rural areas were struggling to access basic needs at boarding schools.
“We have therefore, identified Mmathethe Junior School boarding pupils as our beneficiaries,” she added.
Ms Maruping said they intended to donate school uniform including shoes, food hampers, stationary and toiletries. “Most of these pupils spend the whole school term at the boarding facility without visiting parents. They rely on the school for most of their needs amid the institution’s limited resources,” she said. She said some Yasgrow members used to be boarders, therefore, understood the challenges pupils faced.
She said for Botswana to attain a high income status, the youth should be brought up in a conducive environment, with all basic needs met so that they could grow into responsible citizens who could meaningfully contribute to the economy.
