Africa-Press – Botswana. The Ministry of Health has confirmed the unavailability of yellow fever vaccine in Botswana which has forced many to cancel travel plans.
Batswana intending to travel to countries that has yellow fever vaccination as a requirement for entry have been forced to put their plans on hold as both government and private health facilities have run out of vaccine.
Pharmacies in and around Gaborone have indicated that they ran out of the vaccine over a year ago.
A member of the public, Mr Itumeleng Rabasha, lamented that he recently had to forgo an important trip which he said was a huge inconvenience.
In an interview, the ministry’s chief public relations officer, Dr Christopher Nyanga said shortage of vaccine was a global challenge and beyond Botswana’s control.
There were no special arrangements for those visiting countries where the vaccine was required, he said.
Dr Nyanga advised Batswana to seek alternative means of reaching their golas.
