Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana U17 boys team clinched a 2-0 victory over Mauritius today in the second match of the TotalEnergies CAF Under 17 Cup of Nations COSAFA Qualifiers, to put themselves back in contention for reaching the CAF Under 17 Cup of Nations tournament.
A brace from Kgosi Tshidi sealed the crucial victory for the young Zebras in a match played at University of Johannesburg Stadium in South Africa, and they moved to second position behind South Africa in group C with three points from two matches.
Tshidi who kept the Mauritius defence on their toes throughout the match, opened the scoring with a composed close range finish midway through the first half. He then doubled the lead in the third minute of stoppage time with a clever finish after collecting a pass behind the defence.
Coach Odirile Matlhaku’s team dominated the match as they impressively recovered from the 4-0 defeat suffered against South Africa on Thursday.
This, therefore, leaves them in a quest for another win against Comoros in their last match of the group stages to stay in contention for the semifinals stage.
The top two finishers from the tournament will qualify for the CAF Under 17 Cup of Nations tournament which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.
Botswana has qualified previously for the competition in 1995 and 2013.
