Africa-PressCameroun. 4,767 members of the CPDM in Kumba I flooded polling stations on Tuesday to elect their Section President.

“Of the 4,767 votes cast, candidate Greg Mewanu’s list got 4623 votes – 96.97%. Hon. Tabot Lawson (the incumbent section president) got 144 votes. So, the analysis is that Hon. Tabot Lawson got only 3.03 percent of the votes. City Mayor Mewanu got 96.97 percent of the votes. From these results, I think the winner must be the person with the most votes and that person is City Mayor Gregory Mewanu,” announced Chief Justice Benjamin Itoe, Divisional Electoral Head.

From the results of Tuesday’s elections, the list headed by Kumba city mayor, Greg Mewanu had a very comfortable and unassailable lead over the list of incumbent Honourable Tabot Lawson.

Hon. Tabot was conspicuously absent on Tuesday as the Divisional electoral head, Chief Justice Benjamin Itoe personally conducted the elections.

We learnt that the Section electoral team headed by Nganda Rudolph was also absent on the field on Tuesday.

In fact, the section electoral commission we learnt, had disqualified Greg Mewanu on grounds of pending legal issues. What we don’t know is if the Divisional electoral commission validated that rejection. Apparently, it didn’t. That is why Greg Mewanu’s team spent the entire weekend on the field campaigning.

Apparently, also even after the rejection of Mewanu’s list, no election was held in Meme IA. It should be noted that even if there is one list election still has to hold.

It remains to be seen if the party will endorse the outcome of yesterday’s poll and if Hon. Tabot will concede.

Though there was an election in Meme IC with Mme Ebanja ousting the incumbent Dr. Mukwelle, it seems the loser is not taking his defeat lying down. The incumbent’s list was outrightly rejected, an issue that pit members of the electoral commission at daggers drawn.

In Meme IB a consensus was arrived snatched at the last minute maintaining Mayor Jacob Kay as section president.
