Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister said on Monday that the names appointed by newspapers for the position of Director of the National Police (PJ) have “absolutely” nothing to do with the names indicated and accuses the newspapers wanting to create conflicts between ministers.

“It is speculation. There are also newspapers that have specialized in launching names. It has absolutely nothing to do with the names being given. The Government only decides on this matter in the Council of Ministers”, he said, adding that the executive will decide shortly.

The PJ has been without a director since early October, when Cape Verdean Judge Ricardo Gonçalves, who had held the position since July 2021, left to assume the duties of judge at the Court of Justice of the Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Last week, a newspaper in the square announced an “iron arm” between the Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, and the Minister of Internal Administration, Paulo Rocha, who would be blocking the choice of the new national director of the Judiciary Police.

According to the same source, Joana Rosa would be inclined towards the name of the prosecutor Manuel da Lomba, while Paulo Rocha preferred the also public prosecutor, Nilton Moniz.
