Africa-Press – Cape verde. The municipality of Tarrafal de Santiago will be the scene, on the next 17th, of the closing activities of the mountain year. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, participates in the activities.
The United Nations (UN) proclaimed the year 2022 as the International Year for the Sustainable Development of Mountains.
The initiative aims to ensure the well-being of mountain and lowland communities through sustainable conservation and development.
To conclude activities in Cape Verde, the municipality of Tarrafal will be the stage on Saturday, December 17, for the closure of activities within the framework of the Year of the Mountains.
The program will be attended by the Head of State, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, the Mayor of Tarrafal and representatives of various national and international organizations and institutions.
The presence of the President of the Republic is highlighted by the fact that he embraced the cause with the promotion of various related initiatives.
“The Head of State has taken on public and consequent advocacy in favor of preserving mountains in the fight against climate change and its harmful effects, above all, for small island states, such as Cape Verde”, reads a press release.
