Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC) wants to include Cape Verde’s lighthouses in the country’s tourist route, as assets of the historical and cultural heritage.

This intention was expressed during a meeting, yesterday, between Jair Fernandes, president of the Cultural Heritage Institute and the president of the Board of Directors of the Maritime and Port Institute, Seidi dos Santos, about the possibility of a partnership between the two institutions in the recovery of the lighthouses.

In addition to the recovery of the lighthouses themselves, Fernandes highlighted that the idea is that these buildings integrate the tourist route in the country.

The official added that the Government will work on the restoration of buildings of high heritage value in order to reuse them, in a sustainable way, as strategic assets, making them available to the tourist sector.

“The inclusion of the lighthouses would be an added value and allied to their recovery would also be the interpretative aspect, as these are buildings with historical memory”, he explained.

The two institutions agreed to carry out an inventory of the state of conservation of all lighthouses in the country and signed a protocol to operationalize the process.
