The African School Football Championship kicks off today on the island of Santiago, promoted by the African Football Confederation (CAF), in partnership with the Cabo Verdean Football Federation (FCF). Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania and Gambia have already confirmed their participation in this Championship, when there are many athletes who even arrived in Cape Verde yesterday.
Participam equipas escolares, masculinas e femininas, com 8 jogadores em campo e idades compreendidas entre 12 a 15 anos. Os jogos têm a duração de 40 minutos (duas partes de 20 min) com as dimensões de 70mX42m e balizas de 2mX5m.
Além dos jogos, decorrem, ao mesmo tempo, diversos workshops e sessões de treinamento com objetivo de despertar os jovens desportistas para outras áreas vocacionais.
Senegal, Guiné Bissau, Mauritânia e Gâmbia já confirmaram a participação neste Campeonato Africano de Futebol Escolar, cuja cerimónia oficial de abertura acontece hoje em Santa Cruz, pelas 11 horas, no novo estádio local.
Grande prestígio – Mário Semedo
Para Mário Semedo, presidente da Federação Cabo-verdiana de Futebol, “é um prestígio Cabo Verde organizar o I Campeonato Africano do Desporto Escolar”.
