Africa-Press – Cape verde. The city hall of Porto Novo will channel the amount of CVE 3,000, destined for fireworks, to help vulnerable families in the municipality. The decision is motivated due to the current economic situation, as a result of the various crises.
The municipality justified the decision with the “social context, clearly, marked by the economic impacts, due to the war in Ukraine, which caused the rise in prices of fuel and essential goods, combined with the effects of the persistent drought”, which is, in his view, “reflecting negatively on people’s lives”.
In a note, the city council said that the amount earmarked, this year, for the traditional end-of-year festivities (fireworks and festive music show), which usually take place on December 31, was converted “into benefits and support for the most vulnerable families” in the county.
Health promotion, support for income-generating activities, allocation of basic food baskets to beneficiaries of the social store, a campaign to distribute toys and clothing are other initiatives that are being carried out by the municipality.
