
Africa-Press – Cape verde. In his traditional Christmas message, the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva guaranteed that, in the coming years, the Government will “continue to work hard” to overcome vulnerabilities and build a country with quality of life and well-being for people .
The Prime Minister believes that Cape Verdeans have reason to be confident in a better future, despite celebrating Christmas in a year still marked by crises.
The head of government recalled that Cabo Verde fought a good fight against the covid-19 pandemic, having invested in health and health security and reached “high levels” of vaccination.
“We mitigated the impacts of inflation caused by the war in Ukraine. We took measures to prevent price increases from being even greater. Our action, recognized as exemplary by international organizations, serves as a good example of what we are capable of doing as a Government and as a Nation. It is with this spirit of unity and trust that we will enter 2023”, he stressed.
Economic growth
Ulisses Correia e Silva underlined that the economy returned to growth after a “sharp drop” in 2020, putting the country in a position to create jobs again and reduce poverty.
The PM also alluded to the transport sector, indicating that the executive is committed to improving inter-island air and maritime transport.
“TACV is being recovered. Our US communities are waiting for TACV to fly to Boston again. It will happen next year, ”she assured.
blue economy
The head of government underlined that in the coming years Cape Verde will be a more resilient country, thanks to the investments that are being made to accelerate the energy transition to make the country less dependent on fossil fuels, in the desensitization and safe reuse of wastewater for agriculture, reducing dependency on rain.
“The development of the blue economy, the digital economy and industry will contribute to the diversification of the economy. Tourism will continue to grow in a more decentralized and differentiated way, taking advantage of the potential of all the islands”, she maintained.
Bet on Youth
On the other hand, he stressed that Cape Verde today has a “youth with an entrepreneurial attitude, which invests in their training, innovates, creates companies and creates jobs” and places Cape Verde competing to win at a high level in basketball, handball, football, boxing, miss international and fitness bodybuilding.
“It is this same enterprising and talented youth that takes Cape Verde’s music, arts and culture to the various corners of the world. We have reason to be confident”, she stressed.
Criminality
Regarding the criminality that has affected the country and in particular the City of Praia, he indicated that there was a reinforcement of police action, with special operations in the neighborhoods of Praia, which will continue.
The prime minister took the opportunity to wish a merry Christmas to all who reside and live in Cape Verde and to the entire emigrant community, to foreigners who live and work in the archipelago and to tourists who visit the country in this festive season.
“This Christmas season, we share legitimate values and desires for a better future. An ideal that is built with many hands. The same hands that plant, reap, teach, train, care, protect, undertake and work. The hands that come together, on the islands and in the diaspora, for the common good, to overcome crises and to transform the country. We have confidence in a better future”, he wished.
