Government decentralizes process of attributing nationality to Cape Verdean descendants in Africa

Africa-Press – Cape verde. An Interministerial Technical Commission should, starting this Wednesday, travel to African communities to start, on the ground, work for the attribution of nationality to Cape Verdean descendants who currently reside in countries on the African continent.

The team, led by the Minister of Communities, Jorge Santos, includes a notary from the Ministry of Justice, an official from the foreigners and borders service, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to representatives of the Ministry of Communities.

The Minister of Communities explained, during the first meeting with the commission, held in Praia, that the Government decided to start the process of facilitating the acquisition of the original nationality after the approval of the legislative decree, in 2021.

This legislative decree, according to the minister, aims to meet the needs of the Cape Verdean diaspora residing in African countries, creating processes of facilitation and gratuity in obtaining nationality and developing activities to raise awareness around the legalization process.
