Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, ended this Tuesday his working visit to Cape Verde, where he recognized and thanked the contribution of the Cape Verdean community in the development of his country .

Jean Asselborn, who participated in the second ministerial meeting of the European Union – Cape Verde Special Partnership, recalled the important contribution of the Cape Verdean community to the social, cultural and economic development of Luxembourg.

The meeting took place this Tuesday, January 31, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Rui Figueiredo Soares, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Minister of Immigration and Asylum of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn.

The main objective of the event was to take stock of the implementation process of the Special Partnership since the XI Ministerial Meeting, held in June 2021, and to envision the future of relations between Cape Verde and the EU.

Importance of the common agenda

In this sense, the partners reiterated their “strong commitment” with regard to the shared values ​​and the common agenda of the Special Partnership, stressing the importance of the partnership in the current geopolitical context.

“The partners reaffirmed their attachment to respect for human rights, democracy, good governance and the rule of law, as well as their commitment to multilateralism and an international order based on rules”, says the commitment signed, in the end of the meeting.

The commitment is also understood, among other points, to intensify coordination on issues on the international agenda, namely with regard to WTO reform, the effective application of the Paris Agreement, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and security issues. worldwide, including cybersecurity.
