Visual Artist Emphasizes New Digital Platform's Importance

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The new digital platform for the cultural sector represents “an important step forward” for cultural professionals and facilitates access to documents and services without the need for travel, according to artist Tutu Sousa.

In statements to the press, on the sidelines of the presentation ceremony of the digital platform presented by the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries and presided over by Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, the artist stated that the platform represents added value for professionals in the sector.

“The system will allow professionals in the sector to handle various procedures from the studio or home because they send a message, fill out a form and have access to that document,” he said, emphasizing that digitization keeps pace with the evolution of the world and prevents artists from “being left out.”

According to Tutu Sousa, the platform could facilitate the relationship between artists and institutions, but there are still challenges that require regulation and concrete solutions.

Among the main constraints his class faces, he also pointed to the difficulties faced by artists in transporting works, especially when traveling with paintings and other large materials.

“When we travel with a painting, for example, there are bureaucratic hurdles, and sometimes at the airport they want to charge fees that don’t always make sense,” he stated, arguing that future regulations for the sector should include mechanisms to facilitate the transport of artworks and artistic materials.

In turn, Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva stated that the platform was designed to bring public services closer to artists and integrate information, applications, incentives, and process monitoring in a single digital space.

According to the head of government, the most important component of the system is not only the availability of institutional information, but the direct connection with beneficiaries and users of the cultural sector.

For the leader, creative industries should gain greater weight in the Cape Verdean economy through job creation, income generation, and the appreciation of art and culture produced in the country.
