May: Ship Vasco da Gama docks for the first time after port modernization

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The cruise ship Vasco da Gama managed to dock, for the first time, in the port of Maio, after the modernization of the infrastructure. About 550 tourists are on board, in this, which is the second visit of the Cruise to Maio.

This is the second visit of this cruise ship to the island of Maio, and the first time it had to anchor in the bay of Bixe Rotcha beach, for safety reasons, so this time the conditions for its docking were met, which has facilitated the disembarkation of tourists.

As Inforpress found, the arrival of Vasco da Gama is causing a different movement on the island, with drivers and tour guides trying to get some income from transporting tourists.

However, tour operators are calling for improvements in disclosure and concertation between travel agencies and the class, so as to be better prepared to meet demand.

The works for the rehabilitation and modernization of the port of Porto Inglês were inaugurated on the 7th of September last year, in an act presided over by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.

According to Enapor, the rehabilitation of the port represents a new cycle for the island of Maio, allowing it to generate new dynamics, improve berthing/unberthing conditions, promote better movement of people and goods, thus boosting the growth of passenger traffic and loads.
