The Chamber of São Miguel, through its President Herménio Fernandes, regretted today the death of collaborator Pedro Celestino Gomes Correia, who, since the creation of the municipality, dedicated himself and worked towards its construction and development. Correia, a multifaceted citizen, was, among other things, a musician and former national deputy, in addition to holding other positions in the local authority.
In a publication on his Facebook page, the mayor of São Miguel lamented the loss of this “illustrious citizen”, born in São Miguel, from the town of Flamengos.
Pedro Celestino, recalls Herménio, was a teacher, musician, writer, politician, having played the role of Councilor for Culture in Tarrafal City Council and also Deputy of the Nation.
Other relevant functions
In public administration, he was also Director of the former SAAS (Autonomous Water and Sanitation Service) in São Miguel and in 2004 he assumed the position of Advisor to the then Mayor of São Miguel, João Duarte, having later been director of his office , and also director of the current president’s cabinet.
“Pedro Celestino was an excellent multifaceted citizen, who contributed strongly to the affirmation of São Miguel,
as a promising municipality”, he paid homage.
