Africa-Press – Cape verde. The games that define the winner of the regional football championship in Fogo will take place this Saturday. Vulcânico depends solely on itself, while Académica, in addition to winning, needs to root for Vulcânico’s defeat against Valencia.
Vulcânico face the team from Valencia, ranked eighth, at the São Lourenço ground, while Académica travels to the Monte Pelado stadium, in Santa Catarina do Fogo, to face the relegated Desportivo de Cova Figueira, last ranked in the table.
Vulcânico depends only on itself to win its 13th title of regional champion of Fogo, in the year in which it will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its foundation, while Académica, in addition to winning its game, will have to wait for Vulcânico to slip up in the field of São Lourenço.
Theoretically, the two teams are separated by three points, 42 for the leader Vulcânico and 39 for the vice-leader, Académica, which assumes that a draw will be enough for Vulcânico to be crowned regional champion of Fogo’s first-level football.
Academic can protest previous game
The formation of Académica, which conceded a two-goal draw with Grito Povo in the previous round and, consequently, lost two points in relation to the leader, does not rule out the possibility of protesting against Grito Povo for the irregular use of a player and recover the two lost points.
So far, the formation of Académica has not filed a protest with the Jurisdictional Council of the Regional Football Association of Fogo, but a leader of this sports association told Inforpress that if it proves to be necessary and the two points allow the team to win the title, Académica will protest the game, if Vulcânico’s formation does not beat Valencia in the final round.
