Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde football championship, edition 2022/23, which starts this Saturday, involving regional champions from all sporting regions and the title holder, Académica do Mindelo, will be subject to anti-doping controls on athletes.
According to information gathered by Inforpress from the president of the National Anti-Doping Organization of Cape Verde (ONAD-CV), athletes in competitions, officials, regardless of the sports they practice, are subject to anti-doping controls “at any time and without prior notice”, whether whether in competitions, training or outside of them, including even in their homes.
Emanuel Passos explained that the control agents will be duly identified and equipped to set up laboratories to collect urine for analysis in the stadiums that will host the national football matches.
Minors need permission
The chosen athletes will be able, according to Emanuel Passos, to be accompanied by “staff” from their club, whether it be a clinical staff or any other person chosen and identified.
For minor athletes, terms of responsibility from parents and/or guardians are required so that they can compete, and will also be subject to random collection of urine for analysis.
Refusal to doping control results in four-year suspension
Emanuel Passos made known all these procedures to the clubs and directors of the most diverse regional associations that will be in this major competition of Cape Verdean sport, during the technical meeting held by the Cape Verdean Football Federation.
The ONAD-CV leader also warned that the refusal of anti-doping control, by itself, “gives a four-year suspension”.
ONAD-CV’s mission is to “ensure that sport in Cape Verde is free of doping, actively promoting legality, equality and health in competitions”.
