Africa-Press – Cape verde. Nurse’s day is celebrated today. In Cape Verde, nursing professionals ask for a living wage and better working conditions to practice their profession.
José Carlos Vieira, president of the founding commission of the Ordem dos Enfermeiros, made these considerations at the opening ceremony of the workshop promoted to mark the International Nurses Day, this year celebrated under the motto “Our nurses, our future: investing, protecting, respecting and to value”.
“Nurses also have to value themselves, train themselves and make an effort to provide a service of excellence to those who seek the health service”, he said, noting, on the other hand, that the class, since the covid-19 pandemic, 19, has been asserting itself for its capacity and training.
Reflect the role of nurses
That is why, on another day, he highlighted in his speech the need to reflect on the role of nurses in the current situation, which obliges them to go back in time and carry out an evolutionary analysis of the professional class.
In this perspective, he highlighted the work that nurses have given to the country, from the point of view of health efficiency, as well as the reduction of morbidity and mortality.
“The nurse is an agent providing a public service, but his provision and service goes beyond that. In his intervention, he is often a counselor, receiver of outbursts and manager of other people’s feelings, “he emphasized.
Professional appreciation
As for respect, appreciation, vocation and quality of nursing practice, José Carlos Vieira admitted that with the President of the Order of Nurses, elected on the 16th of April, a lot will change for better service provision.
To mark the date, the Order of Nurses promoted a workshop where the motto of the International Day was reflected on “Our nurses, our future: invest, protect, respect and value”.
