Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Mosteiros, Fábio Vieira, expressed concern about the situation on the EN1-FG01 National Road section in Sumbango, with the approach of the rainy season, and urged the Government to pay special attention.
This stretch of road, which connects the center to the northern part of the municipality of Mosteiros and this to São Filipe, via the north, has seen frequent landslides, the last one occurring on March 3rd.
The route is still partially interrupted due to large blocks of stones that came off the rock.
According to Fábio Vieira, the Government should be concerned about the Sumbango rock because it is approaching the rainy season and “if there is no deep intervention there is an imminent danger of new landslides”.
For the mayor, there is “an imminent danger” and the Government must create the conditions for a “longer lasting” intervention to guarantee the safety of people and vehicles that circulate daily on the Sumbango road.
Requalification of the seafront of Queimada Guincho
Another concern expressed by Fábio Vieira, on the sidelines of a press conference to announce the mobilization of 118 thousand escudos for the requalification of the educational park, is related to the delay in the implementation of the requalification works of the seafront of Queimada Guincho.
According to the mayor, Mosteiros was the first municipality to submit the project for funding, more than five years ago, noting that the Ministry of Infrastructure even launched a tender, in 2021, to award the works to a company or consortium of companies, but until this At the moment there is no predictability in relation to the start of the works.
Compliance with the guarantees of the Minister of Guardianship
Fábio Vieira also advanced that the Minister of Infrastructure had assured him, at the end of last year, that in early 2023 the company would be setting up the shipyards to start the works, and that he even proposed that the chamber advance with financial leverage, in the amount of 107 thousand contos, and assume the leadership of this work, but that its City Hall did not have more feedback on the execution of the project of requalification of Queimada Guincho.
The requalification of the seafront of Queimada Guincho consists of the construction of an alternative route closer to the coast of Queimada Guincho, the creation of recreational areas for sport fishing, new allotment, cycle path, pedestrian paths, and in 2021 represented an investment of around 107 thousand contos, an amount that may not be enough due to the increase in the price of building materials over the last two years.
